Clear and Present Julia
Julia Clarete is smart, witty, and would you believe, funny? This gorgeous singer-actress is part of the cast of Project 11, QTV's weekday gag show.
“Masaya kami every week,” she says. “Meron kaming guest na artista and they're all very playful.”
You couldn't tell from Julia's fresh-faced enthusiasm that she's come from a very taxing schedule, having only gotten two or three hours of sleep the night before because of her weekly gig at a comedy club.
“Every taping namin, sobra akong pagod kasi meron akong gig sa Zirkoh the night before and I get home at four in the morning and I have to be here at seven in the morning, so I'm usually so tired,” she says.
But instead of letting this daunt her, she welcomes the challenge of keeping up such a grueling schedule. It helps that taping Project 11 feels more like play than work, and that her peers understand her situation. “It's very refreshing,” Julia says. “Ang saya. They understand when you're tired, but once you've slept, ok na. They know how to balance people out, so it's fun.”
Aside from the various roles she plays in Project 11's many gags, Julia is most known for her role as the host of Starpok, one of the show's segments, and as the mother of Boy2 Quizon and Ryan Yllana in Pamilya Tiis Yabang. She particularly enjoys playing the latter. “My favorite would be the mom in Pamilya Tiis yabang. She's so pathetic, it's funny,” she shares.
Many stars have graced the show as guests, and of all of them, Julia says that she counts the episode with Candy Pangilinan as her favorite. “I've always been a fan and she's brilliant. And I think that the script that week was very interesting. We enjoyed it. And she was really funny. I was watching the episode where she was our guest and she was really fun to watch,” she says.
In between takes, Julia likes to catch up on her rest or chat with her fellow castmates. “During taping, I hang out with everyone but I hang out most with Wilma and John Feir, I don't know why,” she says.
When she's not taping for Project 11 , however, Julia busies herself with lots of gigs, most of them in different areas like music and movies. “I'm working on my album under Ivory Records. And since I wrote most of the original songs, it's taxing. And I have regular gigs also at Zirkoh Greenhills, Magnet Katipunan, Eat Bulaga also, Monday to Saturday. I'm also doing films,” she says. “I'm in Text and Hilaw .”
As you can see from her summarized schedule, Julia is one busy girl. It's a wonder that she can fit everything in! “It must be my manager,” she says when asked about the secret behind her time management skills. “He's very good in helping me out when it comes to scheduling and prioritizing, though we must admit that we haven't reached everyone yet. We haven't given in to some of the requests we've had but we'll answer them all in due time. It will all fall into place.”
Another factor behind Julia's strength (it takes a strong person to stand up to the rigors and stress of showbiz!) is her faith. “Whenever things get crazy, I just pray and lift it up to God. ‘Lord, kayo na lang bahala dito, di ko na alam kung paano!' I just pray for wisdom to know what to do and everything just clears out and falls into place,” she shares.
Julia Clarete may be a busy bee, but she's happy with the path she's chosen. To her, Project 11 will always be more than just a job. The show, its audience, and all her fans, will always be family.
“Thank you for supporting us in Project 11 and may you all be blessed,” she says. “I hope that we always get to satisfy our televiewers and in case we don't, don't hesitate to write to us.”
