“HOLLYWOOD Dreams” big winner, Julia Clarete, recently realized another dream when Ivory Music signed her up as a recording artist.
The self-titled album includes the single, “Bumalik Ka Lang,” a song Julia herself composed at a time when she was going through a difficult period in her life. The song caught the attention of Ivory’s bigwigs when it was used in “Magpakailanman,” when the TV show dramatized her life story.
With the release of the 11-track album, Julia hopes to be taken seriously as a singer and songwriter. The collection features two more of her self-penned tunes: “You Are” and “Uhaw.” The former is an ode to a loved one, while the latter is a rock song.
Themes
Clarete is partial to songs about pain and longing -- themes she says she can relate to. Cuts in the album depict different stages in Julia’s life.
“This album is special to me because it represents different facets of my personality. In a lot of ways, it shows who I am. I grew up on pop songs and ballads, but I can also appreciate rock and alternative music,” the singer-songwriter explains.
Julia confesses that “vintage” songs have a special place in her heart, that’s why she was very pleased to be able to rework Yolly Samson’s 32-year-old classic, “Bato sa Buhangin” -- this time with a guitar-driven arrangement.
The six covers in the album, which was recently launched on “Eat Bulaga,” include Bryan Adams’ “When You Love Someone” and The 5th Dimension’s “For Once in My Life.”
